ALBERTVILLE, AL (WBRC) -

The grandmother accused of running over her grandson Wednesday has been charged in connection with the incident.

Police say 52-year-old Rebecca Jane Elrod of Albertville was driving a Ford Explorer when she ran over 2-year-old Brayden Lucas Daniel at 3:29 p.m. on Diane Avenue. Authorities say Elrod was under the influence of prescription medication at the time of the accident.

Elrod was taken into custody at the scene for suspicion driving under the influence and transported to a local hospital where blood was drawn under a court order.

Elrod is in custody at the Albertville City Jail and is expected to be officially charged with an additional charge of criminally negligent homicide, which is a class C felony.

Elrod's bond has not been set and the investigation is ongoing.
