AMERICUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Sumter Scarecrow Competition, which will continue through the month of October.

Businesses, churches, organizations and families around town have put together creative and eye-catching scarecrow displays which promote county-wide unity as well as, some friendly competition.

The scarecrows will be judged in several categories by out of town officials who represent and serve other counties within the region. The public is invited to vote for favorites via text-to-vote powered by Alltel. The Chamber is grateful for its partnership with this member business which has so generously provided this text-to-vote service.

Winners will be announced on Saturday, November 3 at Lenny's Market during the Harvest Festival in downtown Americus.

The public is invited out to the Saturday Scarecrow Stroll on October 20. Pick up a map and take a tour around Sumter County to check out all the wonderful displays. Pick your favorite and be sure to text in your vote! Visit the Chamber's Facebook page to see pictures and voting information for all displays.

Also, starting Monday, October 22, you can cast your vote for the "FUND" Favorite by purchasing a vote for $1 each. Anyone not comfortable with technology can come by the Chamber and request a paper ballot.
