TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

During his Monday news conference, Alabama Coach Nick Saban likened the current state of the college football season to a foot race. He says his team needs to work hard to finish strong.

"At this point in the season, it's like we're running a 100 meter race…" said Saban. " Lots of people are close, chomping at our heels. You've got to finish the race."

Saban told the media that he was proud of the way his players competed in the game against Tennessee. He described the game as physically tough, but says his team performed well.

"Needless to say, we did the things we needed to do to be effective and control the game," said Saban.

The coach also noted that he was glad to be playing back at Bryant-Denny Stadium and was looking forward to the game against Mississippi State. He says the Bulldogs have one of the most balanced offenses and one of the best defenses in the nation.

"This is no doubt the toughest team we've played all season," said Saban.
