COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Only 325 soldiers have been awarded the triple Combat Infantryman Badge, and their names are now listed in a new display at the National Infantry Museum in Columbus.
Three awardees were on hand Tuesday to help unveil the display in the museum's Cold War gallery. Among those present was retired Command Sergeant Major James McDonough.
"The country owes a lot of gratitude to the American soldier," said McDonough. "I served my country honorably and faithfully."
The Combat Infantryman Badge is presented to soldiers in the rank of colonel and below for participation in active ground combat while assigned as a member of an infantry or Special Forces unit.
