COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
Ok, maybe not yet, but some people are
already celebrating and getting ready for what it is a favorite holiday for
many folks. It's still two months away, so is it too early to celebrate Christmas?
First off, we think it's never too
early for the spirit of giving and unity that comes with it.
On the other hand, commercializing Christmas
is getting out of hand, skipping over Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukah and
other holidays. It's October! Time to trick or treat, right?
I don't mean to be a grinch, but not
all shoppers like seeing Christmas gear and Halloween costumes sharing an
aisle.
You're already seeing Christmas TV ads
from Target. Plenty of stores, like Wal-Mart and Hobby Lobby and Dollar General
already have Christmas decorations up.
Christmas music on your local radio
stations is not far behind. Some people love it. Others argue, let's wait until
we get closer. It should be the 12 days of Christmas, not the 55 days of Christmas.
We admit, the millions of dollars
spent on Christmas and seasonal staff hired are a big boost to the
economy...but it wouldn't hurt to be thankful for Thanksgiving first.
