BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU is just over a week away from by far its biggest game of the season, as top-ranked Alabama rolls into Baton Rouge and once again, the football team is dealing with some negative publicity.

Tyrann Mathieu, Jordan Jefferson, Karnell Hatcher and Derrick Bryant were arrested on drug charges Thursday.

Even though the former Tigers no longer suit up in purple and gold on Saturdays, fans were still passionate in their reaction.

Word of the arrests quickly became common knowledge at Walk-On's Bar and Grill, with some folks disappointed and others not surprised to hear the news.

"It just shows I can get kicked off once and say I will get help and get in trouble for it again and it's alright," said Joshua Ashcraft. "People just don't seem to get it."

"It gives us a negative image," said Garrett Remson. "We're trying to bounce back from all the negative and it happens again."

Most of the reaction from people centered on former defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who just months after being kicked off the football team for failing a drug test, is now once again charged with drug possession.

"He was going to be a pro and he threw it all away over weed," said Dylan Viola.

"He threw away his college career and probably threw his first round pick," added Brand Applewhite. "He should have had an eye opener, but I guess not."

Still others remained optimistic the former players can bounce back from this run-in with the law.

"It's a sad thing that happened, but it's life and you live and you learn and that's it," said Lionell Sellers.
