VAN, TX (KLTV) -

Authorities within the Van Police Department have detained a person who they believe is the suspect in the assault of a 97-year-old ETX woman.

Officials within the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Department along with the Van Police Department and DPS worked together through the night to arrest the man who they believe is the suspect in the home invasion and assault of 97-year-old Arlene Jones.

Late Saturday night, officials began a car chase with Jones' car, which was stolen by the suspect. After a short car chase, the suspect got out and ran on foot. Early Sunday morning, authorities apprehended the suspect near the city of Van. He has not been identified at this time.

Officials say the man is being charged with evading arrest. He was transported to a local hospital to be medically screened and treated. The Sheriff's office is currently working to get warrants and to get the suspect booked into the county jail.
