COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A former administrator of the year has been arrested on embezzlement charges.
Police say Columbus Youth Soccer Treasurer Joy Perez is now charged with theft by taking – she is accused of stealing $130,000 over a three-year-span.
The Columbus Youth Soccer Club requested an official investigation after the board of directors discovered irregularities in their checking account.
Officials say the missing funds won't change how the league is now.
"We want everyone to realize that soccer -- and they've had it for two seasons now -- they know it hasn't been affected," said Linda Glass, vice president of the Columbus Youth Soccer Club. "They know it hasn't changed in any shape or form."
Police say evidence linked her signatures to account withdrawals.
