New iPad in stores now

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The wait is finally over for Apple fans wanting the new iPad mini!  The 7.9 inch tablet went on sale today in 34 markets, starting at $329.00.

Many were anticipating long lines on the opening day, but the lines were not near as long as expected.  Store employees say that the lines for the previous versions of the iPad were much longer.

At the Best Buy off of Manchester Expressway in Columbus, however, there were still people willing to wait for the new product!  Thomas Jacobs, sales supervisor at the Best Buy in Columbus, says that the line outside did not surprise him.  He has been getting at least thirty to forty calls a day since Apple held their press conference saying the iPad mini was coming soon!  Jacobs believes that the iPad minis' he has will all be sold out by 5p.m. the same day.

While this new iPad may be a big hit to many, critics say competitor tables like Amazon's Kindle Fire and Google's Nexus have similar qualities, but are almost $200.00 cheaper.
