COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus man accused of shooting someone over an iPad appeared in Recorder's Court Monday morning.

Michael Thomas, who pleaded not guilty in court, is accused of shooting and robbing Fort Benning soldier Walter Exantus, 20, twice early Saturday morning.

It happened on Plateau Drive in the Clay Drive Mobile Home Park in Columbus.

Exantus went to a party Friday night and ended up fighting for his life. He is still recovering at the Medical Center and is listed in unsatisfactory condition.

A neighbor told us the party was just wrapping up around 3:00 a.m. at 3110 Plateau Drive when someone demanded Exantus give them his iPad. Exantus refused and that's when things took a turn for the worse.

Columbus police say Thomas, 20,  shot Exantus twice in the chest for the popular electronic device.

Not only did Exantus get shot, but his iPad and 2006 Chevrolet Malibu were stolen.

Investigators explained they located his car on North Lumpkin Road at an apartment complex shortly after the incident.

Michael Thomas was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and armed robbery.

During testimony Monday morning, investigators said several witnesses identified Thomas by name as the shooter. They said, Thomas actually called them and tried to pose as a witness, but later confessed to being a part of the shooting, but not the robbery.

Thomas' is being held in the Muscogee County Jail with no bond. He's due to appear in court again Monday afternoon for a parole violation hearing.
