HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -

A Cataula church was set in flames Tuesday night in between 5 and 6 p.m.  A passerby noticed that the Rehobeth Baptist Church on Preston Road in Cataula appeared to be on fire, so he notified fire and police.

The Harris County Fire and Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.  They tell us that there appeared to be forced entry at the rear door of the church.  They do consider the fire to be suspicious, but there are not any suspects at this time.

Officials say the building is not a total loss, there is smoke damage throughout the building, but structurally it is not damaged much.  There is some damage to the pews and furniture.

The Sheriff Department urges you to call if you have any information on this crime at (706) 628-4211.
