    Before you know it, school will be out and parents will be looking for things for their kids to do. We compiled a list of nine things to do in Columbus this summer for kids.
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center, normally closed on Mondays, will be open Monday, November 12, for the observance of Veterans Day.

Activities scheduled for that day include:

  • 10 a.m. – Paver Dedication Ceremony on Heritage Walk for pavers installed since Labor Day. Guest speaker: Col (Ret) Ralph Puckett.

  • 10 a.m. – "Appreciating Sacrifice," a 4-hour mini-camp teaching children 6-11 the meaning and importance of Veterans Day and the sacrifices Soldiers make daily. Includes skits, crafts and interviews with veterans. $3 per camper.

  • 10:30 a.m. – Arrival of the Batson-Cook Honor Bus. Veterans from the Dothan, Alabama, area are treated to a day at the museum including lunch and a visit with active duty Soldiers.

  • 12:00 p.m. – Local Boy Scouts will conduct an official flag retirement ceremony at the fire pit behind the museum.

  • 2:00 p.m. – Free tour of World War II Company Street

  • All day – Free screenings of "Americans in the Bulge" and "Marching Once More" in the IMAX Theatre, made possible by a generous donation by the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Inc. A special exhibit of Battle of the Bulge artifacts will be on display in the IMAX lobby.

The museum will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 12. There is no admission fee, however donations are welcome. The Fife and Drum restaurant will be open for lunch.
