Head coach Gene Chizik at a media press conference in October. Source: WBRC videoRumors have been rumbling for much of the Auburn Tigers 2-7 season that head coach Gene Chizik would be fired but Thursday, they took on a much more urgent tone.
247sports.com copied a report from Auburn Undercover that said "Auburn president Jay Gogue has told some members of the Board of Trustees he is making preparations to possibly replace head football coach Gene Chizik."
FOX6 News sports reporter Sheldon Haygood adds that Auburn Undercover suggests that Louisville Cardinals offensive coordinator Shawn Watson may be a candidate for Chizik's replacement.
While there has been no offical statement on Chizik's employment, we're sure the rumor mill will keep on churning and keep Auburn football fans busy.
