Oftentimes when we think about our military, we think about the soldiers making a huge sacrifice: the deployments, the many moves, the separations and the heartfelt homecomings.

What we sometimes forget about is their children who have to pick up and go to another school.
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police and HEMSI responded to a fatal wreck involving a train and a teenage pedestrian Friday afternoon.

The wreck happened around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Oakwood Avenue/Lee High Drive and Quietdale/Meridian Street as Lee High students were getting out of school.

School officials, three principals, and several students were also on the scene.

Officers said the 14-year-old Dylan Dewayne Jones, a student at Lee High, was killed when he was hit by the train while walking on the tracks.

They said the conductor spotted Dylan and blew the horn repeatedly. He tried to stop the train, but was unable to do so in time.

Authorities do not know why the Dylan was walking on the tracks or why he didn't respond to the conductor. They said there was no indication he was wearing headphones, but it is something they are looking into.

Huntsville City Schools released the following statement:

Huntsville City Schools would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of one of our students, who tragically lost his life this afternoon. His friends and family will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

A memorial fund has been set up at Redstone Federal Credit Union to help the family with funeral expenses. It is under the "Dylan D. Jones Memorial Fund."

Visitation for Jones will be Monday, November 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville

Funeral services will be Tuesday at the same location at 11 a.m.
