COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A fire occurred on Hulsey Street in Columbus at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The resident of a duplex apartment reported seeing smoke coming from the windows in the other half of the building.

Fighters quickly extinguished flames consuming the inside of the house.

A burning couch was placed on the front lawn after it was hosed down to prevent it from rekindling the fire.

No one was home at the time, but a family with children will be assisted by the Red Cross.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
