Walmart, Target release Black Friday ads

(WTVM) -

It is already that time of year! Walmart and Target have released their coveted Black Friday circulars. The retailers will open their doors to shoppers seeking deals on Thanksgiving Day.

The following is a breakdown of Walmart's Black Friday deal events:

  • 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22) – Top Toys, Home and Apparel
  • 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22) – Electronics!
  • 5 a.m. Nov. 23 through the weekend – Gifts for the entire family; electronics and other items

Target, on the other hand, will open one hour later at 9:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.  Here's a link to Target's Black Friday ad.

Ad leaks have popped up on several popular sites. Fat Wallet has posted Black Friday deals by item, and at Gotta Deal you can click on the latest ads by retailer.

Experts say as far as fashion, most mall stores will have at least 30% off, but the best deals will come later in the season.  Hot toys at bargain prices will go fast, so grab those early.

If you're headed out to shop, here are some tips to follow:

Plan ahead–Now is the time to map out a strategy for shopping. This includes which stores you plan to go to, times, etc.

Make a list and set a budget–Write down exactly what you need to buy and the possible price. You should price check online and try to find out how much it sold for last year. Once you have your budget, don't go over it.

Review store ads–You can check out the sites above or the retailers themselves to find out when store ads have been leaked.

Sign up for email alerts–Many of the sites above will send you an email or text alert when they've posted new ads.

Check for additional discounts and coupons–Double dipping is always better! A sale, plus a coupon will equate to additional savings and more dollars in your pocket. Look for printables now or things like free shipping, etc.

Ask about store policies–Nothing angers people more on Black Friday than standing in a long line, in the cold, and then being told that the item they're waiting on is out! Many stores have set policies about using lottery systems, first come first serve, plus when the doors will actually open. Take the time to find and read these.
