Lions continue hoops road trip at Marquette

From SLU Athletics

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team continues its week-long trip on Tuesday when it visits Big East Conference member Marquette at the Bradley Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. The game can also be seen on-line at ESPN3.com.

Southeastern (0-1) opened its season on Sunday falling to Big 10 power Wisconsin, 87-47, while Marquette (1-0) opened its season with an 84-63 victory over visiting Colgate. The meeting will be the first between the schools on the hardwood and will be Southeastern's second career matchup against a Big East school after facing then nationally-ranked Pitt in the 2002-03 season.

Newcomer Dre Evans, who played as a freshman two seasons ago at Providence, led Southeastern with 13 points in his debut. The junior went 4-for-7 from the floor against the Badgers and 3-for-3 from behind the 3-point arc for the Lions, who shot 7-for-28 (25.0 percent) in the first half and 19-for-54 (35.2 percent) for the game.

Ro Johnson added nine points for Southeastern while Todd Nelson had six. Brandon Fortenberry, playing in his first game in just over 11 months, finished 1-for-8 from the floor while dishing out a pair of assists.

Marquette jumped out to a 42-31 lead against Colgate and finished 31-for-65 (47.7 percent) from the floor in the contest. The Golden Eagles placed three players in double figures with Jamil Wilson leading the way with 15 points. Davante Gardner came off the bench to add 14 points while Chris Otule had 11.

Southeastern, which will open its home schedule on Nov. 20 against Louisiana College, will close out its road trip on Thursday at New Mexico State in a 9 p.m. CST contest.
