BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The four little girls killed in the 16th Street bombing were remembered in a special way Tuesday.

Birmingham Mayor William Bell was joined by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the State of Israel Danny Ayalon for a wreath laying ceremony. It took place on the east side of the building.

Ayalon says the Jewish people have long admired and identified with the Civil Rights movement.

"When we stand here, it is a real triumph of good over evil," Ayalon said. "We have always admired the Civil Rights movement, and admired how the Afro-American people, despite travails and trials and tribulations, have come over and have really patched all the differences of the past and have forgiven the oppressors."

Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson and Denise McNair ere killed in the 1963 bombing during the Civil Rights Movement.
