COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

We're kicking off our second week showing adoptable animals from Columbus Animal Care and Control, and we're pleased to say six of the 12 animals we showed last week found their forever homes.

Five were rescued by Paws and Soul Saver, and one is still looking for a home.

However, the urgency of animal adoption is rising nationwide. This year, more than 8 million animals have already been impounded in the U.S., and roughly 10,000 are put down daily.

The national figures on animal overpopulation are staggering, and could make you feel like there's no way to help. But starting locally will make an impact, and help stop animal neglect nationwide.

You may have noticed in previous segments that these animals are referred to by a number, not a name. It's up to you to give animals like P2 a name and a home.

Here's a look at this week's animals, ready to become a part of your family.

TAG 321 - This Chihuahua mix is between 3 and 4 years old. He's already neutered and can't wait to share his love with a wonderful family.

TAG 361 - This adult Pomeranian is calm, with a huge heart. He hopes you'll take him in and let him be a loyal lap dog.

TAG 356 - This orange and white domestic short-haired male is only 6 weeks old! With his loving and calm personality, he will make a great family pet.

It's up to the community to make a difference in the lives of these animals, whether it's adopting, volunteering, or making sure your pet is spayed or neutered.
