AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn coach Gene Chizik says he has received "hundreds" of supportive emails from fans this season.
He said Tuesday those are fans who "understand when you go through struggles, you continue on the path." Chizik says he also understands the anger of other fans amid this 2-8 season that has put him on the coaching hot seat.
He says those "are caught up in the winning and losing so much it's hard for them to see it that way." Chizik says both perspectives are fair and that if you can't handle criticism you shouldn't be a player or coach.
Auburn President Jay Gogue issued a statement on Oct. 25 saying he shares fans' concerns about the football program. He said it will be evaluated after the season.
