FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
An 8-year-old boy is recovering at a local hospital after police say he was shot in the back while asleep in his bed Tuesday night.
Fulton County Police Sgt. Scott McBride said Ahijah Geffard was in an upstairs bedroom.
His mother and four other adults and children were home when someone fired multiple shots on Hassana Lane about 11:30 p.m.
Ahijah is in stable condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, according to his grandmother.
No one else inside the house was struck by gunfire, McBride said.
Police are looking for witnesses to help in the investigation.
"We are still looking for someone who might have seen the vehicle and got a tag number, or have a description of something we can start on," McBride said.
The family told CBS Atlanta News that they have no idea why their home was targeted. They said they plan to move.
"I don't want to live here not one more day. I've been here six years and I've never ever had problems with the neighborhood or the people. And now to have something like this happen, I don't want to live here anymore," the victim's grandmother said.
No one else inside the house was struck by gunfire, McBride said.
