However, an Auburn University research team has created a test using a biosensor that will help doctors go from hours to minutes in identifying super bacteria like MRSA, a type of staph bacteria that can cause deadly skin infections.

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Tyler fire department responded to a 2-alarm apartment fire early Wednesday morning.

According to fire officials, a neighbor at the Bullard Crossing Apartment Complex at 5105 Old Bullard Road called the fire department after seeing smoke coming out of an open window of an apartment. Five engines and one Ladder Company responded, along with a district chief and investigator.

When crews arrived on the scene just before 7 a.m., they noticed heavy smoke coming out of an apartment in building F. Upon entering the apartment crews saw that the couch was on fire. Crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly and limited the fire damage to just one apartment.

Several residents were evacuated for a short time while fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze. The resident of the apartment that caught fire was not home.

There was severe smoke damage to that unit, and slight smoke damage to the apartment above it.  At least four to six other units were affected, but those residents will not be displaced. No one was injured in the fire.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
