HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -
One of the men accused of setting fire at a church in Cataula faced a Harris County judge Wednesday morning.
Both men are charged with first-degree arson and burglary, but 19-year-old Cody Watson of Phenix City is also charged with possession of a controlled substance.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office told News Leader 9 Watson had synthetic marijuana on him at the time of his arrest.
Larry Hutto, Jr., 37, of Cataula, waived his rights to a preliminary hearing, but asked the judge to lower is bond to $50,000. The judge instead lowered his bond to $90,000. Previously, their bond had been set to almost 180,000 each.
Watson's preliminary hearing has been postponed until after Thanksgiving.
The duo was charged connection with a fire that caused minor damage to the sanctuary of Rehobeth Baptist church in Cataula on Election night. The men allegedly set fire to two pews, a Christian flag, a display Bible and a communion table.
Services at the church will be held Sunday at Friendship Baptist Church in Hamilton.
