COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

News Leader 9 is following a shooting that happened Thursday afternoon on 4th Avenue in Columbus, near 38th Street and River Road.

Columbus police identified the victims as 17-year-old Vanessa Murana, her son 1-year-old Izaiah Murana, and 20-year-old Darius Johnson.

Vanessa was shot in the hand, Izaiah was shot in the leg, and  Darius was shot three times. All are believed to be in stable condition. Police believe the shooting may be retaliation for a robbery that happened about a week ago.

Sgt. Frank Massa with the Columbus Police Department told News Leader 9 they are still searching for the person or persons responsible for the shooting that took place just after 12 p.m.

The suspects ran to a home on 3rd Avenue. There was a brief standoff, but they managed to escape.

The suspect(s) is considered armed and dangerous.

Columbus police surrounded an apartment home on 3rd Avenue at about 1 p.m. where a woman and man were taken in for questioning by police but later released.

School officials confirmed that Fox Elementary School was on lockdown.  School was dismissed at its normal time and Muscogee County Security Officers were brought in the school from 12:30 until all the students were released. Extra police officers were on the scene for the students who walked home.

We'll continue to follow this story and bring you the latest developments as soon as it becomes available.
