GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
A brother and sister were brutally murdered in broad daylight a little more than eight years ago in Gulfport and to this day no one has been arrested or charged. Two crosses sit in a grassy field adjacent to Lorraine Road to honor the memory of David Michael Garriga and his sister Geneva Garriga Gordon.
Gordon's daughter Kristie Gordon Gronkoski said, "My uncle was a loving uncle. He had three beautiful children. They miss him and love him. My mom was my best friend and a good cook. Her needs always came last. She put everybody above her."
The two were leaving a friend's house eight years ago this month when Gulfport Police Investigator Lt. Chris Ryle believes the two were shot to death in an SUV. The vehicle rolled into the grass until coming to a stop.
Shortly after it happened Ryle says a garbage man saw the vehicle, walked up to it, found the bodies and called 911.
"I try to review this file at least twice a year, trying to find something that I missed," Ryle said.
Hundreds of people have been interviewed and Ryle says there are persons of interest. But until someone comes forward with the missing links, a cold blooded killer remains on the loose.
"We have had people come with third, fourth person information but it never pans out. We need somebody, somebody has told someone what happened," Ryle said.
Gronkoski said she and her family live in constant fear.
"I believe in my heart it is someone they knew. That's scary, that's very scary," Gronkoski said. "I always looking over my shoulder, it's very painful. We just keep our faith in God and faith in Detective Ryle who has made a promise to me that he will not stop until he finds the person or persons responsible for this."
She hopes the crosses on the roadside or her pleas will encourage those who know what happened to her mother and her uncle to do the right thing and come forward to bring her family the closure they long for.
"Please, please if anyone knows anything that would lead to arrest and conviction to lead to peace, justice and safety to all of us involved," Gronkoski said.
