NASHVILLE, GA (WALB) -

The reigning Division II national champion Valdosta State Blazers didn't go far to add some young talent to its roster.

Berrien High senior 3rd baseman Abbey Trella has committed to play her college softball at VSU. Trella was a four year starter for  coach Michelle Jones' Rebelettes. She was a First team All-Region third baseman for four years and an All-state player in class AA.

As a senior this year she batted .371 for the Rebelettes with 37 runs scored, 19 RBI's ,18 base on balls, 7 doubles with a .486 on base percentage and .450 slugging percentage.  Her defensive percentage was .944.

Trella says staying close to home was another huge reason she chose to head to Valdosta State so that all her family and friends can come cheer both her and her new teammates on to another National Championship.

Trella said "It was important because this is where I've grown up and coming from a military family. You're not usually allowed to stay around your family and I have people here that have supported me my whole life and I want them to continue to able to support me."

Trella was also selected to play in the Georgia Dugout Club All-State Senior game this in Macon.
