Georgia's only Miss America has passed away. Neva Langley Fickling was crowned Miss Georgia in Columbus in 1952 and won the Miss America crown in 1953.

She is the only Miss Macon and Miss Georgia to ever win the Miss America crown.

She moved to Macon when she was 19-years-old and attended Wesleyan College where she excelled as a pianist.

Fickling held numerous honors in her life time. The Keep America Beautiful Commission named her woman of the year several times.

In 1980, she was awarded outstanding volunteer by then-governor George Busbee.

Fickling died of cancer. She was 79 years old.
