HAMMOND – After a season in which he was named to the Buck Buchanan Award List and earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors, Southeastern Louisiana University football player Robert Alford was selected Tuesday to participate in the 2013 Senior Bowl.

The selection of Alford, a fifth-year senior from Hammond, marks the second overall pick to the nation's top collegiate All-Star game for the University and first since 1970 when All-American Ronnie Hornsby was named a defensive co-captain and scored the South's lone touchdown on an interception return.

Alford, who is expected to become Southeastern's first NFL draft selection since the school resumed football in 2003, recorded 39 tackles on the season while leading the team with four interceptions. Alford tallied five tackles for loss on the season and led the Lions with 12 passes defended. The former Hammond High product, who picked off a team-high five passes with a touchdown in 2011, finished his career tied for seventh in school history with 10 interceptions.

The 2013 Senior Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, January 26, 2013 in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium and will be nationally televised by the NFL Network. Kickoff is to be announced.
