AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

A local running group in Auburn and Opelika will soon lace up their sneakers for a charitable cause.

The Auburn Opelika Running & Track Association (AORTA) is sponsoring races to collect toys and money to be donated to the Auburn Police Department for the Toys for Tots organization.

There will be three races on Saturday Dec. 1: a 10K, a 5K, and a 1-mile fun run, which Aubie will attend.

They will begin in the parking lot of the Trinity Lutheran Church at 446 South Gay Street in Auburn.  The 10K and 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 1-mile will begin at 9 a.m.

Registration for the 10K and 5K is $20 the day of the race, and Big Dog in Auburn will also accept registrations.  The 1-mile is $10.

All participants are expected to bring a toy donation on the day of the race as part of their registration.

Last year AORTA raised $2,500 and more than 400 toys with the help of their sponsors.
