OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

Lee County sheriff's deputies are looking for three men considered armed and very dangerous.

Deputies say a homeowner returned to his home Tuesday afternoon on Lee Road 117 (also known as Jasper McConnell Road) in Opelika and surprised three men who appeared to be stealing from his house.

The victim returned home to see an unfamiliar car in the driveway backed up to the front door. He initially thought the vehicle belonged to one of his niece's friends, and entered the house to find three white men in his kitchen.

Shots were fired, but Captain Van Jackson says the homeowner was not injured by a bullet. The suspects made him get on the ground, took his wallet, and struck him in the back of the head with a handgun before fleeing the scene.

The victim got up to get his cell phone out of his car and found one of the suspects outside sitting on the back of the car with the gun, who then fired more shots at him. The victim discovered one of his shotguns was missing, as well as his son's jujitsu swords.

The men were last seen near Lee Road 117, in the Beauregard community near the Lee County Lake.

Investigators say the three white male suspects could be in a dark gray four-door Infiniti sedan. If you see anything suspicious, call 911.
