ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities in DeKalb County say a 23-year-old man has been arrested in the death of his fiancé's 2-year-old son.
Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish says Devon Sawyer is being held in the DeKalb County jail on charges of murder and cruelty to children.
Parish says Sawyer was babysitting the toddler Saturday around 1 p.m. when authorities responded to a call about an unresponsive child. Parish says Sawyer told investigators the toddler had been playing and did not wake up from a nap.
The toddler's mother told WSB-TV that an autopsy revealed her son had been abused.
DeKalb County police are not disclosing details on the child's injuries.
Sawyer surrendered to police around 11 p.m. Monday, and has yet to appear in court.
