The holiday shopping season is upon us once again, and I don't know about you but it seems to me that nowadays Christmas is a lot more about "stuff" than it used to be.
Ok, I admit there is a lot more "stuff" now than there was when I was growing up. For parents it can be extremely stressful trying to fill a child's Christmas wish list without breaking the bank.
Maybe one way to take some of the stress out of the holidays is to think back on Christmas when you were growing up. What are some of your best memories as a kid? Odds are you remember less about what you got and more about who you were with and what you did.
That's what the holidays should be about, spending time and doing things with family and the people we care about.
There's no getting around it - we will have to do some shopping. The economy needs it too.
But before you hit the stores, make sure you set a budget and stick to it. That way come January you won't be really stressed when the bills come.
But the gift that could have the biggest impact on your family won't be found in any store and doesn't cost a penny and that's the gift of time together.
