SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas volunteer firefighter is still in the hospital after being involved in a one-vehicle accident Friday night.

DPS officials tell KLTV that three men, who were involved with the Jackson Heights Volunteer Fire department, were involved in a one vehicle rollover Friday night as they were responding to the call of an accident in the area. Officials say they were on their way to the station in a personal vehicle when the accident happened.

20-year-old Jalen Smith, 21-year-old Cornelius Redwine, and 18-year-old Gary Robinson, all of Tyler, were in the vehicle when it rolled over multiple times off of FM 2767 near County Road 387.

"According to what the occupants of the vehicle advised the investigators that another vehicle pulled out in front of him causing them to have to take evasive action, which caused the driver of the vehicle to lose control of the vehicle and it rolled several times. However this is an ongoing investigation and that is just the preliminary report," said Tyler DPS Public Information Officer Jean Dark.

All three men were taken to ETMC Tyler Friday night. Cornelius Redwine and Gary Robinson were treated and released Friday night, and Jalen Smith who is on life support is listed in critical condition.

The investigation into the crash continues.
