COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Virginia College in Columbus will host a friends and family open house for former, current and prospective students and the community on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the campus located at 5601 Veterans Parkway.

While learning about the educational opportunities available to Columbus-area students at Virginia College, attendees are also invited to help spread holiday cheer and give back to the community by collecting Toys for Tots and non-perishable items for local families in need.

WHAT:          Virginia College in Columbus Friends and Family Open House

WHEN:          Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE:       5601 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904

"We are excited to host a friends and family open house here at Virginia College in Columbus," says Campus President Beverly Jeffries. "Not only will this event benefit the community of Columbus, but it also gives area residents the opportunity to gather together and celebrate the holiday season. We're calling for all students to contribute to the toy drive and to help make this holiday season brighter for children of all ages and backgrounds."

Guests are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy and/or a non-perishable food item to be donated to Toys for Tots and food banks in the area. This event is part of a nationwide effort taking place on 31 campuses in 10 states including Virginia College, Ecotech Institute and Golf Academy of America, all career schools owned by Education Corporation of America, to support those in need during the holiday season.

The friends and family open house is free and open to former, current and prospective Virginia College students, their friends and families and the general public. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the campus and see demonstrations in all functional areas, including medical assisting, medical billing and coding, business administration, pharmacy technician and cosmetology. Refreshments will be provided to guests, as well as free tote bags, and the opportunity to win door prizes. A holiday craft-making activity will also be available for children.
