BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Department of Public Safety has issued a missing child alert for two young sisters.

According to the alert, the girl's mother Tamika Lark, 28, took Destiny Seay, 1, and Genesis Nelson, 4, Dec. 2. Lark does not have custody of the girls and they were last seen in Birmingham.

According to Lark's family, she had visitation with her daughters on Sunday. That is the last time the children were seen in Birmingham, according to authorities.

FOX6 News spoke with Lark's mother, who says her daughter isn't a criminal, but rather a mother who was doing what she thought was right to keep her children safe. She said her daughter tried to get custody of the girls, but felt like she was being met by an unfair judicial system.

"They were not being treated right. I have 4 kids and I would do anything for my child. She would too. She took her kids out of harms way. That's what my daughter did," said Ruth Grace.

There is now a warrant out for Lark's arrest. Her mother says she believes she is still in the area, but the other side of the family believes she may now be in Atlanta.

Lark is described as a black female, 5' 4", 170 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. Destiny is described as a black female, 3', 25 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. Genesis is described as a black female 4' 2", 42 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the girls or Lark, call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450.
