Kerryon Johnson's three-touchdown performance led Madison Academy to a 31-7 win over Fayette County in the Class 3A state championship game Thursday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Johnson, who was named the championship game MVP, scored on runs of 35 and 3 yards for the Mustangs (13-2), who captured their first AHSAA title. He returned one of his two interceptions 68 yards for a touchdown in the first half.
The sophomore - who finished with 135 yards on 25 carries - gave Madison Academy a 10-0 lead in the second quarter when he took a fourth-and-1 carry 35 yards for a score.
Johnson added a 3-yarder with 3:45 remaining to seal the win. Malik Miller added a 6-yard touchdown run just 1:09 later to extend the lead to 31-7.
Fayette County (12-3) got its only touchdown on Marcellus Redmond's 2-yard run with 23 seconds left in the first half.
