ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia transportation officials have announced $43 million for 14 projects across the state.
Department of Transportation officials say five new or rebuilt bridges are among the projects, part of an effort to improve the safety and functionality of bridges in the state.
The bridge projects include: widening the Lee Road bridge over Interstate 20 in Douglas County to four lanes; replacing two bridges on Brown Avenue on the southwest side of Columbus; and building a new State Route 92 bridge over the Flint River between Fayette and Spalding counties.
Transportation Board Chairman Johnny Floyd says the state has about 14,000 bridges and culverts.
Construction details and lane closure schedules on all projects will be announced before work begins.
