Charges downgraded for Columbus suspect who fled to Mexico

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Christian Ulloa, 19, pleaded guilty Monday morning to aggravated assault in connection with the murder of a Columbus teenager.

Ulloa was originally charged with felony murder and malice murder for the shooting death of 17-year-old Alton Tucker, but prosecuting attorneys were unable to locate witnesses.

The murder happened last summer in the Pine Grove mobile home park.

Ulloa was extradited from Mexico earlier this year. He told his attorney he fled to Mexico because he did not think he would receive a fair trial in America.

Jorge Mendoza-Infante was also charged with felony murder and malice murder. Mendoza-Infante pleaded not guilty to the charges in June 2011, but he remains in jail with no bond.

Monday, an attorney asked the judge to consider Ulloa's age. The judge sentenced Ulloa to 10 years in prison. He will be eligible for parole 3 years and 6 months.
