VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta State expected to have a good offensive line with five senior starters back. The Blazers offensive line have been playing even better than expectations.

"We put a lot on those guys from the get go. They have played a lot of very, very good defensive lines and they have stymied some very good defensive lines," said head coach David Dean.

Seniors Cam Short, Jake Thomas, Edmund Kugbila and Mesh Wokomaty have been anchoring the VSU offensive line for the last three season.

All-American Ryan Schraeder transferred in last season.

These five linemen have been a team within a team.

"All five of us understand every position out there. We know what every guy is going to do. Depending on what play is called, we know what we have got to do and where we have to be to make the block for the play to be successful," said offensive guard Edmund Kugbila.

"That is what I am most amazed about is that it is the whole unit up there. That is what it takes to be successful on the offensive line. It is got to be one whole unit. It can't be three guys. That is what they have done all year long and they pride themselves on that," said quarterback Cayden Cochran.

And the VSU quarterback is smart enough to thank his offensive line for protecting him in the pocket.

"A lot of our wide receivers success this year has come from the offensive line and the time they have given me. We thank them after every play. I thank them after almost every play," said Cochran.

And the Blazers hope to be thanking the offensive line on Saturday against Winston Salem State.

"It will be a dream come true. I have been here four years. I have won a conference championship but I have never won a national championship before," said Kugbila.

The Valdosta State offensive line wants to seal their legacy in Blazer history with a national championship.
