12/13/12 WTVM EDITORIAL: SafetyCab's free rides

Updated:

'Tis the season for a lot of things including the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

If you are going to partake you will be glad to know that for the 30th year SafetyCab will be available during the holiday season in an effort to help reduce the number of DUI-related accidents and fatalities.

Drinking drivers in Columbus, Phenix City and Fort Benning will receive a free ride home from parties, restaurants and bars between 9 p.m. And 2 a.m. From December 1-31.

The real purpose of the program is to encourage holiday party-goers to designate a driver who will refrain from drinking alcohol.

In the event a designated driver is not available, SafetyCab will provide free transportation home for passengers by calling SafetyCab at 706-660-6069.

So, keep that number handy and make plans before you drink. Do not get on the roads driving drunk.

You will save lives, maybe even your own.
