COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A new Goodwill Retail Store and Donation Center is now open at the Cross Country Plaza on Macon Road in Columbus.

They had a ribbon cutting and opened their doors to the public at 9 a.m. Friday morning.

This Goodwill is the first of five new stores following an expansion announcement from earlier in the fall.  The new facility is almost 1,400 square feet with a donation center in the back.  Twenty-five new jobs were created for this store.

People in the community can receive job search assistance, attend budgeting courses, and get their Federal taxes prepared for free at this new location. Goodwill is able to fund these services through the sale of their gently used items.

The president and CEO of Goodwill say this new store will allow them to continuously fund their mission, and help people in the community earn jobs through their career services and training centers.

Goodwill was only open for an hour when they had more than 200 customers show up.  They had games, gifts and prizes for their customers upon arrival.
