Dick's Sporting Goods suspends sale of sporting rifles

FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

White House officials said President Barack Obama actively supports efforts to reinstate an assault weapons ban.

He would also support legislation to close gun show loopholes, which allow people to buy guns from private dealers without background checks.

This comes as some retailers made the decision to pull some weapons off the shelves.

One of those stores is Dick's Sporting Goods.

Opinions seem to be equal across the board. Some customers said Dick's made the right decision, while others said it won't make a difference.

In a statement on their corporate website, Dick's Sporting Goods store released a statement saying they were "extremely saddened" by last week's shooting.

The company went on to write:

"Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning, we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chain wide."

Some people think suspending gun sales at any store won't stop people from getting their hands on one if they really want to.

The store's corporate officer has not returned the call when asked for further information about the sales suspension.
