Former Braves outfielder arrested for battery

DULUTH, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Andruw Jones is out on bond after a battery arrest early Christmas Day.

Gwinnett County police said they responded to a domestic disturbance in Duluth around 1:25 a.m.

They said the dispute was between Andruw Jones, 35, and his wife Nicole.

Jones' wife said the heated argument started at their house, but she wanted officers to meet her at her parents' home.

According to Nicole Jones, on Christmas morning she asked her husband to assemble a computer desk. While working on the desk she said Andruw Jones became belligerent and grabbed her left arm and pulled her across the floor of the garage.

As she tried to flee up stairs, Andruw Jones grabbed her ankles, according to reports.

Reports said the two tussled before he got on top of her, choked her and threatened to kill her.

Officers said Nicole Jones suffered visible injuries when Andruw Jones placed his hands around her neck. They took photos of her injuries.

Police reports indicate that Andruw Jones was so intoxicated that officers had to help him stand up during his arrest. Officers could also smell alcohol on his body.

He was booked for battery around 3:48 a.m. Jail records show he was released on a $2,400 bond at 11 a.m.

He played for the New York Yankees the past two seasons. Earlier this month, he signed a contract to play the 2013 season in Japan.
