The LSU Tigers are on the first leg of their post season journey. The team loaded buses and headed to the airport Wednesday morning.
Head coach Les Miles is taking No. 8 LSU (10-2) to his third Chick-fil-A Bowl appearance as coach. The purple and gold Tigers will face the orange and white Tigers of No. 14 Clemson (10-2) on Dec. 31.
Many consider this bowl game the most high-profile matchup of the pre-Jan. 1 games.
There's no doubt quarterback Tahj Boyd and the Clemson offense deserve all the praise they are getting. They have rolled up 42 points and 518 yards a game. Those stats are unheard of in the SEC, mostly because teams in the conference actually play defense.
LSU's offense will look to wear down Clemson's defense, while keeping that high-powered offense off the field. The Clemson "D" has been pushed around a few times this season. It gave up 25 points and just over 400 yards a game, but was just worn out in the team's only losses of the season to Florida State and South Carolina.
The Seminoles just tomahawked them for 287 yards rushing, which helped FSU outscore the Tigers 35-16 in the second half. So, guess what South Carolina did?
The Gamecocks used the run to wear out Clemson's defense, and then tossed it through the air for over 300 yards and three touchdowns.
It's no secret LSU loves to run the rock. The team averages 385 total yards a game, with 180 yards of those on the ground.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CST). It will air on ESPN.
