Oftentimes when we think about our military, we think about the soldiers making a huge sacrifice: the deployments, the many moves, the separations and the heartfelt homecomings.

What we sometimes forget about is their children who have to pick up and go to another school.
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Muscogee County School District worker is facing misdemeanor charges in connection with a fatal accident that resulted in the death of a Columbus minister.

Investigators say Alfie Johnson, a security officer, was driving a school district truck when he struck two pedestrians on Steam Mill Road on December 15.

Johnson has been charged with second-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to maintain a lane.

Police say Loretta Williams, 50, was walking on Steam Mill Road with a group, around 8:30 that morning, when the pickup truck left the roadway and ended up on the sidewalk, striking her and two others. She was pronounced dead at the Medical Center.

Those who knew her said that Williams, a minister, had preached her last sermon the night before she was killed.

Linda Estell, 63, was also hospitalized. Her family told News Leader 9 she is an incomplete quadriplegic, meaning she could regain the use of her limbs.

A third victim suffered minor injuries.

Investigators would not comment on why Johnson may have swerved, but they did say there was no indication of drugs or alcohol being involved.
