CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Two people are dead following a morning house fire in northern Cherokee County.

Officials say around 11:30 Sunday morning the victim's brother, Glenn Vessell called 911.

"Mr.Vessell's brother lives right over there and heard an explosion. He jumped on his four wheeler and by the time he got here, the house was fully engulfed in flames," said James Campbell, Cherokee County Sheriff.

When fire officials arrived on the scene they discovered that 68-year-old Jerry Vessell and 66-year-old Madeleine Vessell died during the fire. Their home was a total loss.

Neighbors living next door could feel the explosion.

"It felt like a bomb went off. It shook my entire house," said Jimmy Guillory.

A State Fire Marshall will be investigating the cause of the fire which is still unknown at this time. We were told that the house did receive propane service, but it is not clear if that played a role in this fire.
