PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Witnesses said a man exhibited bizarre behavior Wednesday before he was shot and killed outside the home of a Phoenix family.

Jason Floyd Wilson, 35, was yelling at himself and flailing his arms before he was shot by a father outside his children's bedroom window about 2 a.m., according to Officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department.

Holmes said the man had initially tried to break into a parked pickup truck near 28th Avenue and Acoma Drive when the truck's alarm sounded, alerting the owner, who said he saw the suspect in the driveway.

The suspect then ran to a nearby house before going to the home where he was shot.

Holmes said the suspect was working on the window outside the children's bedroom when the family dogs inside the house started barking, waking the homeowner, Holmes said.

The 27-year-old father armed himself with a gun, saw the suspect through the window and yelled at him to go away.

The suspect continued to work on the window where the homeowner's 4- and 7-year-old daughters were and reached into his pockets, leading the father to believe he was going to pull a weapon, Holmes said.

The father fired and hit the victim, who walked into the street before he collapsed and died.

Holmes said the suspect did not live in the area but had friends who lived nearby.

The homeowner currently is not facing charges, police said.

The investigation is continuing.
