LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

An inmate who escaped from Elmore Correctional Facility Wednesday evening has been captured.

Robert Seagrest was serving time for theft of property out of Lee and Chambers counties. He was captured in Lee County Wednesday night after approximately four hours on the run.

Officers believe he stole a pick-up truck after escaping the facility.

At about 7:30 CST, Lee County patrol deputies noticed a stolen vehicle with the driver driving recklessly and tried to make a traffic stop. After a short chase the vehicle was stopped.

Seagrest jumped from the car and ran along Lee County Road 182. Seagrest was being chased on foot by deputies when he jumped from a bridge.

Sheriff Jay Jones says Seagrest then broke into an unoccupied house along Lee Road 158 and stole a gun. When Seagrest exited the house he was noticed and then tackled by a deputy who got the gun away from him and made the arrest around 8 p.m. central time. The rifle was never fired.

Sheriff Jay Jones says Seagrest is being treated at EAMC for a possible broken leg and faces numerous charges from multiple agencies.

We'll continue following this story and will bring you any new updates as they become available.
