COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Muscogee County School Board will gather for a called meeting Monday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.  According to the agenda, members will go into executive session to discuss the matter.

[We will have a live report on this meeting beginning on News Leader 9 at Five.]

It's been almost a year since former Muscogee County Superintendent Susan Andrews left her position at the helm of the school district.

This summer a nationwide search was launched for a new superintendent. We are in the new year and still no new person has been elected to take over that position.

"A process was put in place by the Board of Education and that process is being implemented. We are ongoing right now, working on hiring the very best person for the next superintendent," said School Board Chair Cathy Williams.

At a previous executive session back in December, the Board met with superintendent search firm McPherson and Jacobson. They suggested several applicants for the board to interview. We do know that the board selected four candidates to interview; who those four people are to this day remains a mystery.

"State law says that anytime a board of education narrows the finalist down to three or less they have to present those names to the board when get to that place then we will do exactly that--- It will be three names, two names, or it could be one name," Williams said.

Cathy remained tight lipped on candidate names. She says no time limit can be placed on the search and that interim superintendent Dr. John Phillips is sticking round as long as they need him.

"We have an outstanding leader in doctor Phillips and he is one-hundred percent committed to insuring the success of our district," Williams said.
