Majestic Sports Bar landlord speaks out: I'm not the one to blame

Columbus police are still on an aggressive search for two men suspected of opening fire in a crowded bar New Year's Day.

Since the shooting, several have accused Majestic Sports Bar of serving alcohol to minors and not having adequate security.

News Leader 9 spoke with the owner of the building to find out what he has to say about all the allegations.

"It doesn't make me feel good about it because I don't think that what they are saying is accurate," said property owner James Weaver.

Weaver said he's owned the building located on 2102 Cusseta Road for more than 30 years but denies being the owner of Majestic Sports Bar.

"I don't run the club. I lease the club out. They pay me rent," Weaver said.

Weaver explained after the shooting he demanded the owners of the bar give him an explanation of what happened.

"From what the [owner] told me, they were standing in the door and [the suspect]  walked right past him and started shooting," said Weaver.

Weaver said he believed the owner's story of what happened that night.  We also asked him about several allegations the community is making against the establishment.

"People are saying a lot of violent incidents happen at the club every weekend," said News Leader 9's Brittany Dionne .

"No, No that's not true," Weaver replied.

"Some people are saying that they don't have security at that club and they don't check people," Brittany Dionne said.

"That's not true," Weaver said.

"What about the allegations of serving minors alcohol?" said Brittany Dionne.

"We don't have any minors in there," said Weaver.

We have confirmed a 16-year-old boy was shot at the club; however, investigators will not clarify whether he was shot inside or outside.
